Kitchen-Aid KHMS2040WSS Microwave Hood Combination Oven
So here comes my KHMS2040WSS review. Sometimes you just want a microwave that can sufficiently heat up food. That’s all, no special features or extras like the ability to sculpt your mash potatoes into a Venus de Milo replica. I was looking for a microwave that would suspend over my stove. I wanted something simple and not complicated, easy to use and reliable. When my friend told me about the models that have built in exhaust fans in them, I was intrigued. I know I had initially planned on something simple with no extras, but an exhaust fan sounds like a very practical feature. Especially for a guy who tends to burn butter or oil on a regular basis. I always forget how quickly things can heat up on the stove. I found a Kitchen Aid model that seemed interesting. I believe it was model KHMS2040WSS to be exact.
KHMS2040WSS – Stainless Steel, Black And White
The microwave came in stainless steel, black and white. I opted for the stainless steel one because supposedly it’s the more modern design, or so that’s what my interior design major little sister told me. When I got it, I had a little trouble installing it up above my stove. After all, the thing weighed about 60 pounds. That’s when I realized this was not going to be a one man job. I had my friend over the next day to come and help me install it. After about 30 minutes, we were successful. The microwave appeared to be secured in its place. As a thank you to my friend I said I’d cook him up a quick lunch before he goes. I decided to try the Auto cook feature to cook up some strip steaks that I had marinated the night before. Just in case it didn’t work, pizza was my back up. After reading the instructions thoroughly, I put the steaks on a metal rack and placed it on a plate, and into the microwave. After 5 short minutes, the marinated steaks were done and they were delicious. I heated up some frozen veggies and used the melt cycle to make a butter garlic cream for the vegetables. Everything was superb. If my friend hadn’t been there to witness the meal in the making, he wouldn’t have believed it was all cooked in the microwave. Needless to say, I was pretty impressed with the microwave’s overall performance. It resulted in fast cooking, minimal clean up and tasty food.
The Features
In the next couple of days, I messed around with the different features. Cooking up things like fish, chicken, casseroles, bread, etc; with just minor tweaking, I was able to perfect the doneness of each dish. The reheat and defrost functions always yield evenly heated food and perfectly thawed out meats. It also has a great 30 second button to add on 30 second increments in the cooking time. And of course, the very much loved popcorn button. It’s been three weeks, and so far, this microwave has proven to be a keeper.

It’s pretty obvious that I like my new multifunctional microwave with many great extras. At first I thought having so many buttons and features would make an appliance so complicated and unpractical, but in the end, this microwave has become my very own personal assistant in the kitchen.
